On Hiatus -- More Reunion Pics Later

I have a whole pile more of reunion pics that I have to process and post, but I have been called away unexpectedly to George Town, Grand Cayman, in the Cayman Islands for business. Consequently I am on hiatus until I figure out a good internet connection, and have time to process the pictures. (They are too large a file size and too big of a resolution merely to upload).

See you on the flip side. Rum Point Beach beckons.

On Hiatus -- Travelling

Unfortunately it's back to planes, trains and automobiles for your pilot of posterity, your nabob of nostalgia, your rimestock of reminiscence, your merchant of memories, and your ipsographer of images.

I am an airgonaut again --travelling on business, and I should be back to these pages in a few days time once I sort out a regular internet connection. See you with more OCHS memories on the flip side.

Happy Easter 2012 ~ On Hiatus

Happy Easter to you.

The blog is going on hiatus and I will stop posting OCHS, St. Joseph's High School and Paul Dwyer memories and updates for awhile. I am travelling again. My itinerary takes me to Amsterdam and Scotland and I will be time-constrained and perhaps not have the best of internet connections.

I'll be posting again when I get back on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Again, Happy Easter, Joyeuse Pâques and hopefully Spring will be in full force when I get back.

Hiatus

I am going on hiatus for awhile. I am slowly getting ready to return to the tropics, and the remainder of my material requires further processing, scanning etc, and I do not have the time to do it. There are close to 750 images from the early days of OCHS on this site, and it has been my pleasure to bring them to you. I especially enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, teachers, school mates, classmates and friends of OCHS.

If you have any digital material of your own that you want to see up here, please send it to me at the contact email address (ochsblogger - at - rocketmail - dot - com) and I would be pleased to post it.

Feel free to drop me a line and if you want to stay in touch by Facebook, let me know and I will give you my Facebook coordinates.

Thanks for visiting and hope to see you soon.

Ken

This is the end ... and a new beginning ..

Like high school itself, this blog has come to a logical end. Graduation in the field of life has come to me and unfortunately I must end posting to this blog for an indeterminate period of time. I will be working on two continents in some incredibly challenging and exciting work.

It has been a pleasure posting here, and I am glad that some of my snapshots have brought back happy memories for a lot of you.

If you want my FaceBook coordinates, drop me a line at: ochsblogger-at-rocketmail-dot-com and I would be very pleased to add you as a friend.

Goodbye, good luck and I hope we all meet again sometimes.

Ken

PS - In case you are wondering, the empty desk and the notebooks in the picture above used to belong to Cathy Clinton. I liked the way that the light was fading on a December winter day when the sun goes down early, and how the shadows were cast across the frame.

On Hiatus -- Victoria Day

The blog is taking a break for several days. I am going back to Canada for a few days. It will be great to spend the Victoria Day (May 24th weekend) in Canada.

As much as I like the beaches, sun and sand of the tropics, I do miss the good stuff in Canada.

Among these are courteous drivers, cheap and plentiful fruit, wide open spaces, the ability to drive further than 21 miles without hitting a shore, smooth roads, good movies, restaurants that do not take for first born for a decent meal, cooler weather, swimming in a lake (Kingsmere Lake here I come), inexpensive golf, things that work, getting things done in five minutes (like going to the bank, etc), efficient customer service, knowledgeable store clerks, and friendly people. See you on the flip side when I am back in the tropics. Have a great holiday weekend. I know that I will.

On Hiatus -- Happy Easter

I will not be posting on this blog for a while. I have just returned to the hills of Quebec from a short visit to Oshawa, and after the Easter weekend, I am travelling again to the tropics. I have to settle back in on Paradise Island in the Bahamas and get a grip on my work. After that happens, I will start posting again. See you in the sun on the flip side.

Happy Easter !!!

On Hiatus -- Image Shortage.

I am back in the tropics, and horror of horrors, I left the external hard disk with all of my images back in Canada. I have nothing. Nada. I am going through the terrabyte drive to see if there are any remaining scans that I have here. It doesn't look good. If not, there will be no further additions for a month until I can get someone to get my images to me, or I go back myself. Sorry for the inconvenience. I leave you these 1970's archive pics.

Man, the Mother's Pizza on Ritson Road at King Street still looms large in my memory as the best pizza that I have ever had. I used to have a coke glass from Mother's Pizza as pictured above. I rarely used it, but one day I did. It survived some thirty years and countless moves. My daughter and her boyfriend decided to be nice and do the dishes. The boyfriend broke it while washing dishes. C'est la vie.

Taking a break again

I am busily preparing for my speech and workshop at the Sheraton in Nassau, so I probably won't post for a few days. If you are in Nassau on the Cable Beach strip, drop in, say hello, check out the booths and have a great time. HP is giving away a laptop a day for the three days that the expo runs. See you next week with more OCHS memories.

On Hiatus -- again

I am travelling again, possibly for up to two weeks (maybe less) and as a result, this blog is going on hiatus.

I leave you with a few images from Oshawa in the 1970's.

Note the Bobby Orr autograph on the shirt.

Canadian Thanksgiving

Tomorrow I am flying from the Caribbean back to our home in the foothills of Quebec. I am returning for Canadian Thanksgiving, and only my second time home this year. It will be a short visit. I will not be putting up OCHS memories here for the duration of the visit.

I will return to posting in 5-6 days. Happy Thanksgiving.

Below is a pic from the archives. It comes from 1971. A policeman stands across from the old Queen's Hotel in front of the Armouries on Simcoe Street, downtown Oshawa. (Thanks Dan for the correction. I originally called it the Genosha Hotel).

On Hiatus

I will be in Canada for the next ten days, and not have access to my photo archives. There will be no updates to this blog for the duration.

I have not visited home since Christmas 2008, and I am looking forward to it.

On Hiatus

Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane. This blog will be on hiatus until at least May 20th, 2009. I am catching a morning flight from Nassau to Miami to Paris, then to Marseille. Linda and I are staying at a gîte in the Luberon Valley of Provence.

See you on the other side.
