Library Club ~ 1969

The nun pictured is Sister Gonzaga. The club is the Library Club. I don't know what the library club did, but I bet that they did it in the Library. According to Maureen Moloney, the library is no longer called the library. It is some sort of resource center now. The minor niners of today call it the room where they have all of those boring web pages printed out on paper with a cover.

The year of this pic was 1969.

French Club

The 1970 version of the French Club is seen before their departure for Montreal, presumably to learn French on the street.

The One and Only Pollution Club ~1972

(click for larger image)

POLLUTION CLUB "The Pollution club is a newly formed club, concerned with our environment - the filth it contains and how to clean it up - be it air, water or noise pollution that is the offender." The quote on the back of the photo! Interesting to note that was the only year that OCHS had a club by that title

I was kind of shocked to see my brother's face in this pic. Maureen Moloney asked me what the replacement club was, and I told her that it was probably the Procrastinator's Club. They don't have the pic from 1973 yet.

People that I recognize in the photo include Ed Bodnar, Ed Johansen, Cathy Dixon, Doug Zochodne, Doug Hamlyn, Vince Gedge, Paul Pulla, Pete Maringer, David Cooper, Nancy Legree, Kathy Andrews and Mary Catherine Robinson.

Theresians

The caption on this photo says "Junior Unit of Theresians (First in Canada)". I had to Google "Theresians" as I didn't know what it was. Their website says they are "Women Supporting Women with Gospel Values".

I recognize a few of the faces in photo, who were still at OCHS when I attended. I can't put names to the faces, but if you can, please leave a comment. Click on the pic to make it bigger.

Geography Club Almanac

Blair Morris was a geography teacher and also the staff resource for the geography club. I was a member. We put out an almanac that we sold around the school for 5 cents. This is the original artwork for the second edition of the almanac.

Art Club

No this isn't about appreciation of Art Chai or Garfunkel, it is about Art with a capital A. There apparently was an art club led by Miss Jones. Pictured members above are Colleen Corrigan, Marylee O'Neill, and Teresa Quatarone.

Chess Club in Action

Pictured left to right: Doug Hamlyn's younger brother (thanks for the correction) someone who's first name I can't remember, Don Hamlyn, Francis Kreisz, foreground ... unknown, center- Kevin Duignan, sitting on desk - unknown, standing at right is Mike Ivanco.

Update -- a reader left this comment: Sitting on the desk playing chess with Don Hamlyn is Larry Burrows. Don Hamlyn is indeed Doug Hamlyn's younger brother.

Thank you. That is what I thought as well. Don Hamlyn is Doug's younger brother and another student that I have been communicating with confirmed it.

Rocketry Club

This is a photo of the Rocketry Club. They fired model rockets into the atmosphere.
