Halloween Dance 1971 ~ Interesting Side Bar

I was electronically leafing through my images on this large HP monitor that I have, and came across some more Halloween dance pictures from 1971. I had the slide show feature enabled that allowed the stored images to be presented as a slide show. With the big screen, I could see what was happening in the background, and I immediately noted the interesting little sidebar to the right of this picture in the background. I've enlarged it for you amazement, amusement and edification.

Do you remember tenuously holding hands at the high school dance? Now isn't this cute? How long do you think that they have been married for? Do you remember being on a date, and suddenly realizing that the other person is really not that in to you? Why is she holding his hand with two hands? From the look on her face, it probably isn't romantic ardour. These are all questions only to be answered by the Pompatus of Love. Anyone recognize the students?

Jim Lamb, Gary McCormick at the Halloween Dance

Jim Lamb doesn't have a costume at the Halloween dance on the left. Gary McCormick is dressed as a surgeon. I don't recognize the student on the right. If you do, leave a comment.

Witch at Halloween Dance, 1971

A student dressed as a witch appears at the 1971 Halloween Dance. With that costume, she was probably practicing to become a teacher. If you know her name, please leave a comment.

Siblings

There were many many sets of siblings attending OCHS, my family included. Pictured above is Kathy Seaver, and below is her older brother Tony Seaver.

In this blurry shot, Tony is at a dance accompanied by Mary Ellen Barrett, and to the right in the foreground (apologies for the poor negative) is Cheryl Kelleher.

David Cooper, Nicole Gaboury at Halloween

David Cooper and Nicole Gaboury were dating in Grade 12. This is how they came dressed to the Halloween dance.

Fine Young Cannibal

This is truly an effective Halloween costume taken at the 1970 or 1971 Halloween Dance at OCHS. I have no idea who is behind it. The fine young cannibal has chicken bones attached to his shirt.

Halloween Dance Bum -- Jim Holland

The indigent costume was effective at the Halloween Dance. I couldn't identify this character, but John Coleman could. This is Jim Holland.

Halloween Dance Costume

I am relying on readers for a name for this person. The photo was taken at a Halloween Dance in 1971, I believe.

Update: A comment was left indicating that this might be Stephen O'Shea. And the name now rings a bell.

Update Part Le Deux: A reader has graciously left a comment stating that Joanne Bond is in the prison stripes and Bob Lack can be seen over her left shoulder. This is gotta be from memory as there are very little visible clues. (I am always amazed that I cannot remember things and yet when twigged by a reader with a name, it all comes flooding back. I remember Joanne Bond vividly once her name was called.)

Update Part Le Trois: I was so intrigued about the background that I went back to the high res scan of the negative, clipped the background and ran it through the equalize and white balance filters. I discovered first of all that the negative was backwards -- ie. horizontally flipped. Joanne's number should be 00001 and not the other way around. The background is still fuzzy, but here is a better look at the people in the shadows -- digitally enhanced of course. And now that I look at this, it seems that I sort of remember the dude in the white tee shirt. I think that his first name is Gary. Corrections are welcome.

Christine Jablonski

I got a fair number of requests for prints of the above pic of Christine Jablonski showing up at a Halloween Dance dressed as a pixie or a fairy.

Psychiatric Help

This is a shot from a Halloween Dance at OCHS. I do not know the name of this student Mary Ellen Barrett, but I do remember that she was Tony Seaver's date at the dance. Tony came dressed as a butler or something similar. The imitation of Lucy Van Pelt in the Peanuts comic strip was perfect.

Halloween Dance II

This snap came from the series of negatives from the Halloween Dance. The quality of the frame isn't stellar, but the flower power comes through the reticulation of the film. I do not have an indentification for this person .

Joe Simiana -- In Pace Requiescat

This is Joe Simiana, and his prom date, whom I do not know. Joe was a year or two ahead of my class. He became a policeman, and has recently died.

Update from a reader (thanks): Her name was Kendra (Joe's date pictured above), now a nurse at Oshawa General, not an OCHS student

Rob Micheli

That's Robert Micheli in the foreground. He was in my sister's class behind ours. His sister was in the class ahead of me. This picture is how I remembered him. After I left highschool, I never saw him again until last year.

The circumstances of our first meeting in many many years were a bit weird. We shook hands in 14 feet of water on Snorkellers Reef off the 17th Hole of the Ocean Club in the Bahamas. The Ocean Club is where the James Bond film Casino Royale was shot. He had his snorkel gear and I had mine as well as my Hawaiian sling and fish spear. Later I shared beer, nibbles and conversation with him and Bob McDonnell in my house on Paradise Island, and we caught up the years.

Immediately behind Rob is Christine Jablonski. The other male is unidentified. . Update: Thanks to a reader, this is Greg Meringer.

Cool Dudes

I don't know who these guys were. (Jim McKenna left -- thanks Dan ).This was taken at a Halloween Dance, and I think that it was 1969 or 1970.

Note the package of cigarettes in the guy's pocket on the right.
