OCHS stood for Oshawa Catholic High School. It is now known as Paul Dwyer High School. It is still located at 700 Stevenson Road North in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. These images are from my photography archives, and they are intended as a blast from the past. I have just digitized these images from dusty negatives that have not seen the light in a pile of years. In addition, other archive photos have been added from contributions by graduates and teachers of the high school.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard Conrad and Elizabeth (née Robertson) Lauber and her brother Conrad. She is survived by her brother Michael and his wife, Donna, who will sadly miss her, as well as her nieces and nephews and her friends, former colleagues and her Sisters in community.
Patricia Lauber was born and raised in Toronto. Following her first year at the University of St. Michael’s College, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto in September 1950. After first profession, Sister Conrad began a 50-year teaching profession that included the roles of teacher, principal and vice-principal at St. Joseph’s High School, St. Joseph’s College School, St. Patrick’s High School, Vancouver, Paul Dwyer High School, Oshawa and Michael Power/St. Joseph’s High School, Etobicoke. A former student once said, “In my estimation, Sister Conrad left large footprints as a principal and as a nun.”
Sister Conrad followed her esteemed teaching career with a ten-year tenure as administrator for St. Joseph’s College Residence at the University of St. Michael’s College. In 2007, Sister Conrad was appointed as a founding director of Village Mosaic, a new program under Fontbonne Ministries. Her active involvement ended in 2019 with a new role as ministry counsellor for the Village Mosaic staff.
In 2021, she moved to the Sisters of St. Joseph residence at 2 O’Connor Drive. She died peacefully at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence where she had been receiving excellent nursing care and attention.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anselm’s Church 1 MacNaughton Drive, Toronto, Ontario.

Sister Conrad was my Gr.!3 English teacher at OCHS,'68-'69. I was such a brat and actually threw a book at her. In return,I received a final English mark well beyond what I deserved and got accepted into university.
ReplyDeleteThat break turned into a wonderful 38 year teaching career where literally thousands of students benefited from that,"pay it forward" example she provided for me so many years ago. I never got to thank her in this life but I'm confident that she now knows how much I owe her.
