In our final year of high school, Blair Morris was the Geography and Urban Studies teacher. He arranged an over-flight of the Oshawa area for the Urban Studies class. The class started out at the Oshawa Flying Club, and a series of Cessnas and Pipers flew us around the area. The above picture was how the school looked like from the north west side looking east.
I haven't been back to look at the school, but the brother tells me that it is greatly expanded, and all of the vacant farmland is now built up.
I will post images regularly as time permits.
a curious event, growing old....people revisit places they seem to remember from days gone by.
ReplyDeletei do remember vividly some of the people featured here.
i was the art teacher that year (the year of the yearbook pictured above)
since leaving oshawa catholic high, i have been another art teacher (cochrane, ont.), a journalist, award-winning photographer, special project supervisor with statistics canada, recreation therapist with the frail elderly, a youth/street outreach worker; written and produced a drama work at the fringe in edmonton, exhibited at the works, visual arts festival, edmonton and written a play based on stories of "at risk" youth.
throughout it all i have managed to create my own art as well.
but i too am now retired from "the" workforce, though creating my own art keeps me busy.
my most recent career was that of visual/fine arts model (actually, i am still called upon from time to time)
i live in alberta with my wife and our sixth dog "willow" our two daughters are married and we have five grandchildren.
a curious event, growing old......revisiting on line places we have been, people we have met, played bridge with.....
ReplyDeletei read the above comment in mid september 2026, after noticing a link to one of my blogs.
a lot has happened since 2009, my wife died in 2017, dogs number 4, 5 and 6 have died, the friends we played bridge with have died, i handed in my driver;s license after i realized how lucky some pedestrians in edmonton, red deer and rimbey are to be still alive.
57 years of accident -free driving.
and........i have five grandchildren, the oldest one, a girl got married two years ago to a woman.
and i still have a dear friend from my ochs days,, john coleman.
i am 83 now, still living independently in my own home, getting up at 4 in the morning and out the door 15 minutes later for my one hour walk.
still vacuum clean, do the laundry, shovel snow, rake leaves.....yes, there are aches and pains, but i am happy..
to anyone i have wronged, i deeply regret my lack of understanding and to those that have inspired my, thank you.
