He played for the Toronto Saint Michael's Majors. Jack's crowning hockey achievement came on May 5th, 1961. He scored a goal in an epic 4-2 game to win the 1961 Memorial Cup. The game was against the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Edmonton Gardens in front of 7,159 fans. The goaltender on his team was hockey great Gerry Cheevers.
Jack had a chance to turn pro, and instead turned to teaching instead. Ironically, Jack taught a student who was present at the school at the same time that I was, that became a Toronto Maple Leaf goalie -- Rick St. Croix.
